I want to start off by thanking everyone who was part of the 4-H Luck of the Draw Raffle on Bull Bash Saturday. I know I said thanks last Monday, but since last Monday was a holiday, I actually recorded that report before the raffle every happened. That was before I knew that the 4-H Council sold out of raffle tickets for the first time ever, and before I knew that we would have the most participants in a long time in the Youth Quiz bowl. So… a huge thank you from the 4-H Council to everyone who played a role, all of the volunteers, the many donors, and of course the ticket purchasers who bought all of those tickets. The raffle continues to be a success with your support, so Thank You for all you do for Cherry County 4-H. Needless to say, the raffle was a tremendous success and we look forward to working with everyone again next year. The Extension Office, 4-H Council and all the Cherry County 4-H’ers really appreciate everyone’s support of the 4-H program. I also want to say thanks to all who had a hand in the Youth Livestock Quiz bowl, it was lots of fun and a huge success. This years winning team was Sydney Dexter, McKean Jenkins, Cade Cody and Kitra Cody.
If your family has children interested in joining 4-H, or if any of you adults out there want to become a project leader, please contact us at the Extension Office for more information. The deadline for enrolling in 4-H is exactly one month away, March 23.
Those of you who either need to renew your Private Pesticide Applicator license or need to get a license for the first time, don’t forget, we have a Private Pesticide Certification class at 1:30 this afternoon in the Courthouse meeting room in Valentine. If can’t make it today, mark you calendar for, April 6. That’s the date of our last pesticide class for the year.
I’m beginning to feel like a broken record reminding you Commercial and non-commercial pesticide applicators that your classes are coming up quickly. Initial certification is March 17 and recertification is March 19, both at the Cherry County Extension Office. You need to register for those classes by calling the state pesticide education office in Lincoln at 1-800-627-7216 before the end of this week.
Last Friday there were over 60 people that attended a meeting in Nenzel to discuss forming a wind association. I recorded the meeting for folks who couldn’t attend. I’ll get that recording posted on our website as soon as I can. I’m a little embarrassed about the quality of the recording. I’ll clean it up as good as I can and get it up on the web as soon as I can. Wednesday I hope. Just go to cherry.unl.edu and click on Nenzel Wind Meeting.
Contact the extension office at 402-376-1850 for more information on any of the things I’ve covered.
