Those of you who either need to renew your Private Pesticide Applicator license or need to get a license for the first time, don’t forget, we have a Private Pesticide Certification class this afternoon in the Courthouse meeting room in Valentine at 1:30. If you’re snowed under and can’t make it today, don’t panic, we just scheduled another class scheduled another class on February 23 in Valentine. We’ll still have one April 6. Also, don’t forget there’s a class this Wednesday, January 28th in the Merriman Village Hall. That class starts at 1:30 Mountain Time. If you can’t make it to any of those classes, there’s always the option of doing the home study workbook.
I also want to remind you about the Cattlemen’s Day and Trade Show that the guys at the Gudmundsen Sandhills Laboratory are having February 6. It starts at 8:30 am Mountain Time at the Gudmundsen ranch north of Whitman. They have a full agenda. It looks like it’ll be a day well spent, if you can find the time to go.
The 2009 Nebraska Beef Feedlot Roundtable is also coming up in February. The closest locations are Bridgeport, on February 12, and Norfolk on the 10th. I know we don’t have very many feedlots around here, but I think the agenda will be interesting to those of you who retain ownership and send your calves to be custom fed. The speakers will be covering the 2009 economic outlook for cattle feeders, distillers grains effects on meat quality and food safety, feedlot health, implants and several other topics.
This winter’s Beef Satellite Short Course is over, but you can still watch the presentations over the internet. They don’t have the video from last week posted yet, but I’m sure they will have it soon. Just go to webvideo.unl.edu.
Finally, Jody asked me to remind you that if you have items that you plan to donate for the Luck of the Draw raffle, please drop them off at the Extension Office by the end of this week. Thanks to everyone who has donated. The 4-H Council has a lot of great stuff to raffle. Make sure you stop by Cedar Canyon during Bull Bash and get you tickets in.
As always, you can call the extension office at 376-1850 for more information on any of the things I’ve covered.
