I hope you all had a great Bull Bash weekend. The 4-H Council wanted me to make sure that I thanked everyone involved with their Luck of the Draw Raffle. Thanks to all of the donors, and to everyone who bought tickets. There were many happy winners.
Twenty-eight youth participated in the 4-H/FFA Livestock Challenge. The winning Senior team was Heather Harms, Shawna Wheeler, Kari Qualley and Tasha Kolowich. The Junior Division winners were Sidney Dexter, Bailey Dexter, Logan O’Kief, and Gavin Higgins.
This month is just flying by, don’t forget the Risk and Insurance Workshop next Wednesday February 20 at the Holiday Inn Express. The workshop will be from 1 to 5 in the afternoon. The Risk Management Agency has sponsored various crop insurance products for many years, but recently they have been adding insurance products for ranchers as well. The presenters will give an overview of Livestock Risk Protection Insurance and other Risk Management Agency backed insurance products available to ranchers. Drs. Jay Parsons and Dana Hoag, from Colorado State University, will give a unique perspective on risk and risk management, with a focus on insurance. We will use a health insurance example to illustrate the concept of balancing the cost of insurance against the amount of risk you face. The workshop will use risk simulation to teach risk management principles in a way that not only helps you grasp them better, but will be a lot of fun as well. We would appreciate it if you would call the extension office to pre-register.
4-Hers, don’t forget that Market Beef Weigh-ins are coming up. The 4-H Livestock Committee will weigh in market beef projects in Valentine on Saturday February 23 at the Valentine Livestock Auction from 1-2 pm Central Time. The weigh-in in Cody will be March 1 from 1-3 pm Mountain Time at Lancaster Supply.
Contact the extension office at 402-376-1850 for more information on any of the things I’ve covered.
