Monday Extension Report – November 26, 2007

November 26, 2007

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and didn’t spend all of your money on the biggest shopping day of the year. I haven’t overspent, not yet any way. I don’t know about you, but this is the time of the year when I’m most tempted to abandon my budget.

I thought this would be a good time to talk about the money management resources that we have available. We have ten NebGuides that deal with money management. Financial security starts with setting financial goals. One of the NebGuides describes the goal setting process. Others cover budgeting systems, credit, credit cards, and credit scams. There is also one called “Teaching Your Children about Money.” These NebGuides are also available online. Just follow the link in the publications section of our web site. Our web address is cherry.unl.edu.

If you are like the majority of Americans and you’ve already overspent your budget. UNL Extension has a great web site at paydowndebt.unl.edu. That’s paydowndebt, all one word, dot unl dot edu. It is a great resource to help you get out of debt.

On a different note, ranchers, don’t forget that tonight is the first session in this winter’s Beef Satellite Short Course. This year’s course is called “Beefing Up the Bottom Line.” Tonight, Rick Rasby will be talking about what they’ve learned about ethanol byproducts over the last year. Gary Stauffer will be talking about basic nutrition for the working ranch horse. Join me in the Extension Office Meeting room from 7 to 9 pm Central Time.

Contact the extension office at 402-376-1850, or visit us on the web at cherry.unl.edu for more information on any of the things I’ve covered.
