Monday Extension Report – June 25, 2007

June 25, 2007

Summer time is 4-H time and the CloverKids are going on a campout. Well, it’s a mini-campout, but even mini-campouts are a lot of fun. The annual 4-H CloverKid Fun Day is a week from today, July 2nd. It will be in the Valentine City Park from 1:00 to 3:30 pm. You don’t even have to be a 4-H member to participate. All kids, ages 5 to 8, can come. The cost is only $8. Please call the Cherry County Extension Office by this Friday, June 29th to register.

Junior Leaders will be having a CloverKid Workday this Thursday, June 28th at 1:30 pm. Any Junior Leader interested in helping prepare for CloverKid Day please meet at the Extension Office.

The Outriders 4-H Club will be hosting a free Riding Clinic Sunday July 8th from 9 am to 4 pm at the Cherry County Fairgrounds. Jo Teter from McCook will be the instructor. All 4-H youth ages 8 to 18 are welcome to attend. Youth under the age of 8 can come, but they can’t ride. They  can observe and participate in a short “off horse” lesson. You don’t have to be enrolled in a horse project to participate. This would be a great time to come learn about the 4-H Horse project. Please call Molly Aschoff to pre-register.

Finally, I want to remind you about the Beef Quality Assurance program on July 17th. The program will be at the Valentine Livestock Auction from 2 to 5:30 pm. The program is sponsored by the Nebraska Cattlemen and Cherry County Extension office. Intervet will provide an evening meal. I will be giving more details next week, but I wanted you to get it on your calendars. It will be a very hands-on workshop, with live demonstrations and time for questions and answers.

Contact the extension office at 402-376-1850 for more information on any of the things I’ve covered.
